Taylor Swift creates history; Becomes first female to win ‘Global Icon’ at BRIT Awards 2021
Born on December 13, 1989, in West Reading, Pennsylvania, Taylor Swift is an American singer and a songwriter, who rose to mainstream recognition with her second studio album ‘Fearless’ released in 2008.
Swift had recently rerecorded her first six albums which also included 2008’s ‘Fearless’, that hit number one position on the Billboard 200 Chart, making it her ninth Billboard album to top the charts.
The ‘Love Story’ hitmaker has made a history by being the first female recipient ever, of the ‘Global Icon’ prize at the BRIT Awards 2021.
The pop queen will be felicitated with the honourable Award on Tuesday night, during the annual ceremony taking place at the O2 Arena in London.
The BRITs while announcing the Award said in a statement, that Taylor would be honoured with this Award for her “immense impact on music across the world and incredible repertoire and achievements to date.”
It further added, “Taylor’s career is unparalleled and her music and influence has resonated with millions of people all over the world. She’s used her platform to highlight many issues globally and recently has been applauded for her work promoting acceptance of the LGBTQ community.”
The Global Icon Award will add on the huge list of the popstar’s achieved accolades including 11 Grammy Awards, thrice for ‘Album of the Year’.
Being a non-British recipient, Swift has joined the list of previous such winners like Robbie Williams, David Bowie and Elton John.
