The Handmaid’s Tale: Here’s what you can expect from the upcoming episodes

Instead of releasing episodes one by one as expected, Hulu released three episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale season 4 on 28th of April. With the recent circumstance of the 30 second video released on Instagram, the question that rises is what all can be expected from the upcoming episodes?

We have seen to the end of Season three, where June has failed in her effort to escape to Canada. Well to be honest, is it all that we can expect from this series? Again and again, trying so hard to escape, failing with a near to defeat experience but enough to pick up another flight.

In the opening of season 4 we see June around the countryside, where she and her friends are disguised as lower status women “Marthas”. A new character is put to frame, Mrs. Keyes( Mckenna Grace). Her story just like the stories till now is an addition to the various demons in the system. Authoritarianism, and many other themes that had gone in parallel to the seasons two and three have been reflected in it. So is the embedding of child marriage as depicted in the  story of Mrs. Keyes.

Margaret Atwood had been inspired by the series and released a sequel to the book called “The Testaments.” The second book is about a decade ahead of the show featuring now. It doesn’t mention anything about June, that may imply to a possibility of a successful escape.

Unlike all other shows where its either the White Walkers or the Red John that would take away the anxiety that is supposed to grow through a few seasons, The Testament doesn’t want to keep pushing us through places just to keep us intrigued, this is supported by the authors references  that somewhere in the near future we will have to leave Gilead and continue on our path.

From a very important and cool understanding of what the author and the show should be telling us is to take our eyes of the June-centric concept. June could also go wrong, and the lack of that understanding, putting people around her in jeopardy, June is not completely justifiable or right when she walks away unharmed.

Lets wait and see, take our time and feel in what Season 4 has kept for us.

Will there be a season 5? That would be a question for another discussion.
