The Penguin: Potential release date, cast, plot and everything we know so far

The Penguin is an upcoming American television miniseries produced by Lauren LeFranc for the streaming service Max. It is a spin-off from the movie The Batman (2022) that examines the Penguin’s rise to prominence in Gotham City’s criminal underground and is based on the DC Comics character Penguin. In partnership with Warner Bros. Television Studios, 6th & Idaho, DC Studios, and Dylan Clark Productions create the show, with LeFranc acting as showrunner.

Following the movie’s March 2022 release, HBO Max ordered the series, and in October, Craig Zobel joined to helm the first three episodes. In New York City, filming started in March 2023 and will continue through July of that year.

The Penguin: What is the plotline?

In an interview with Collider, Matt Reeves announced that The Penguin will continue where The Batman left off and go immediately into The Batman: Part Two. After the conclusion of The Batman, the city of Gotham is on the back foot as it seeks repair and revenge since the Riddler’s vast plot has left many places waterlogged and flooded. The highest position in Gotham’s hierarchy of crime is now empty after the GCPD and the Riddler assassinated Carmine Falcone, the city’s largest criminal leader. The morning after the flood, Oswald Cobblepot is last seen gazing at the sunlight with the possibility of the creation of a new empire before him. According to the reports, The series, which takes set one week after The Batman (2022), examines the emergence of Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot/Penguin in Gotham City’s criminal underbelly.
