“There isn’t much Native American culture in American culture,” tweets Rick Santorum
Former Republican Sen. Rick Santorum at an event for a conservative youth organization made a remark which sparked an online backlash. He suggested that the native Americans didn’t contribute to the U.S. culture.
“We birthed a nation with nothing. I mean, there was nothing here. I mean, yes we have Native Americans but candidly there isn’t much Native American culture in the American culture,” Pennsylvania Republican said at an event on Friday, in comments first reported by Media Matter for America.

Senior political contributor, Santorum, said: “It was born of people who came here pursuing religious liberty, to practice their faith, to live as they ought to live and have the freedom to do so.”
He was widely criticized with many accusing him of whitewashing the atrocities committed against indigenous people.
