Rich in culture due to its history and diverse factions of residents, New England is one of the most charming and fascinating parts of the US. Along with its beautiful heritage sites, there are certain locations that lure explorers because of the daunting stories behind them. Here’s a list of some of these places:
1) Blood Cemetery- Hollis, New Hampshire
Like all other cemeteries, Blood Cemetery has got many tales associated with it as well. Originally named Pine Hill, is popularly known as Blood Cemetery because of the Blood family buried there. Many stories, involving that tapping sounds coming from the graves are widely prevalent.

2) SK Pierce Mansion- Gardner, Massachusetts
The mansion has a captivating story to tell, a family, tragic deaths, complex marriages and family disputes. The family house when inherited was converted into a boarding home where people carried out the indecent activities of the time. A lot of creative murder including strangling, drowning and burning to death has also been rumored to have been committed here.
3) The Paine House- Coventry, Rhode Island
A museum filled with artefacts and has a lot of history associated to the many owners it had, the first was Samuel Benett and the Paines being the last. The museum is under the care of Western Rhode Island Civic Historical Society and is open to tourists. Rumours, apparently solidified by evidence from an EVP video of a rocking chair, are that a girl named Sarah haunts the house.
4) The Sterling Opera House-Derby, Connecticut
The Opera House along with its Talent showcasing and entertainment of people through music and arts also seems to be crowded with ghosts and spirits that lurk around its stage. Once a host to premiere talents like Lionel Barrymore, Harry Houdini and Amelia Earhart, the only attendees to the Opera House are the ghosts that haunt it.
5) The Lizzie Borden House- Fall River, Massachusetts
A prominent site for tourists because of the double murder mystery of a couple, it was blamed on their daughter who was later cleared of all charges. It was turned into a bed and breakfast, a number of guests claim to have sighted the ghost of a woman if not touched by her.
6) Rutland Prison Camp- Rutland, Massachusetts
Built-in 1903 to house inmates charged with mild crimes like drunkards and thieves. To keep them occupied and of use to the state, they were made to cultivate, raise and care for poultry and cattle for meat and milk. The catch here is the unrecognizable noises that are heard around here when it’s dark.
7) Elder Ballou Cemetery- Cumberland, Rhode Island
Stories about the place range from UFO landings to distinct shadows making noises inside of it. The area was a religious meeting ground once, only old tombstones and horror stories seem to have survived.
8) College Hall in Vermont College of Fine Arts- Montpelier, Vermont
From the painting that kept getting misplaced to friendship with the security guard of the grounds, the ghost of Anna Wheeler haunting this College Hall has a hand in it all. It is said that she was murdered by her lover’s wife. A victim who spotted the ghost claims to have seen a woman dressed in a high Victorian outfit.
9) America’s Stonehenge- Salem, New Hampshire
Just off of Mystery Hill, this tourist attraction is as much a riddle as it is frightening. It houses numerous stone structures and the identity of the people who made them remains untraced. Stories like spirits still residing in those structures are quite in circulation.
10) The Captain Grant’s Inn- Preston, Connecticut
This charming inn has more than a whimsical vibe to itself like the spirits that are believed to be taking care of it. It is quite famous because of the show Psychic Kids that was once shot here. The Adelaide room in particular has been a point of interest for many explorers because of the two kids and a woman that were once reported to have been seen there by a client.
