UPDATE: 8 killed in Utah sandstorms including children

Eight of the people that succumbed to a series of crashes caused by a sandstorm in Central Utah are reported to be children, according to an update from Utah Highway Patrol.

In a statement issued on Monday, UHP said that five of the eight people killed in the crash were present in one car. The two others were traveling together in a different vehicle, while the remaining individual was in a third vehicle.

UHP reported that apparently, 22 vehicles were part of the Sunday crash, a resultant of high winds causing a sand storm impairing visibility on the roadway.

At least 10 people were taken to hospitals with injuries from the crashes.
