Watch out for these 5 female-centric movies and shows in 2021

Women are increasingly speaking up against inequality, oppression, and harassment. While some might choose to do so directly, some try doing it through Art; to propagate their message as have humans done since time immemorial.  As Feminism, as a movement and a way of looking at life seeps into society, we get a plethora of movies and shows that are female-centric. Well, with the Covid restrictions not going away anytime soon, why not watch some of these?

We bring to you some female-centric movies that have released or will release this year and you can look forward to!

1. Sex and the City Revival:

One of the first glam shows to revolve completely around women and their friendships is making a comeback 23 years after its first episode aired. The rebooted show will be called And Just Like That and will premier on HBO Max. While you can watch the reboot when it releases, don’t shy away from watching the older version and you’ll know what the hype was all about!

2. Firefly Lane:

Released recently on Netflix, this show explores the lives of two women who have been friends for decades and seen each other grow and battle life’s challenges.

3. To All the Boys:

Want something cute and cheesy for a relaxing weekend watch? This three-movie sequence is the right pick for you! Apart from revolving around the love story of Lara Jean, these movies also portray Jean’s relationship with her sisters, her best friend, and eventually her step-mother. It beautifully weaves a wholesome bond between these women who don’t really agree on everything always but harbor respect.

4. Nomadland:

This Chloe Zhao film is a fierce tale of survival that won the Asian director a Golden Globe this year. It revolves around the life of a woman in her sixties and her life’s hurdles after losing everything in The Great Depression.

5. The Dig:

Directed by Simon Stone, this film is based on the 2007 novel of the same name by John Preston which reimagines the vents of the 1939 excavation of Sutton Hoo

Well, here’s hoping there’s more female-centric content coming our way this year!
