Wes Anderson’s ‘The French Dispatch’ and Paul Verhoeven’s ‘Benedetta’, to be a part of the Cannes lineup

Its been assured by Cannes chief Thierry Frémaux that the filmThe French Dispatch and drama Benedetta will be selected in this year’s festival.

The French Dispatch is directed by Wes Anderson and Benedetta is directed by Paul Verhoeven.

According to blog Rappler.com, Frémaux told a recent HFPA Q&A: “I won’t tell you any titles except the films that we all know were already selected from last year, including by Wes Anderson (The French Dispatch) and Paul Verhoeven (Benedetta). They will be back in the Official Selection.”

We are sure about the update as it’s been confirmed with the festival.

Anderson’s brilliant film rejuvenates a collection of stories from the last issue of an American magazine published in a fictional twentieth Century French city. Benicio del Toro, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Lea Seydoux, Frances McDormand, Timothee Chalamet, Lyna Khoudri, Jeffrey Wright, Mathieu Amalric, Stephen Park, Bill Murray and Owen Wilson are among the cast.

Verhoeven’s titillating drama Benedetta is based on the seventeenth-century nun. She suffers from disturbing religious visions. Virginie Efira, Charlotte Rampling and Lambert Wilson are among the cast.

These two films were expected to be on the Croisette the previous year but the festival itself didn’t happen because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

These two are a part of the collection of films that have been held back ever since. They will get their debut on the Riviera if the festival happens this time.
