Willie Nelson turns 88, here are some of his achievements to remember
Willie Nelson is celebrating his 88th birthday today.
He is an American actor and a musician who rose to popularity through his albums ‘Shotgun Willie’, ‘Red Headed Stranger’ and ‘Stardust’.
The commercial and critical success of these albums made Willie one of the most popular country music artists.
Willie has played in more than 30 films and apart from being an artist he has co-authored many books and is also an activist involved in matters of biofuels consumption and marijuana legalization.
Nelson was born on April 29, 1933 in Abbott, Texas to Myrle Marie and Ira Doyle Nelson. He learnt to play guitar from his grandfather when he was only 10 years old.
His songs were more inclined towards traditional numbers and covers and some of the best include Heroes in 2012, Let’s Face the Music and Dance and To All the Girls…in 2013 and Summertime in 2016.
Nelson performed in the Texas Annual Country Music Festival in July 4 and went ahead to establish ‘Farm Aid’ in 1985 which helped raise funds for farmers through different festivities.
In 2015, Willie launched ‘Willie’s Reserve’ to supply marijuana after it’s legalization in certain countries.
He authored his biography named ‘Willie: An Autobiography’ in 1988 and several other memoirs including Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die: Musings from the Road in 2012 and It’s a Long Story: My Life in 2015.
