YouTube’s new feature makes it easy to save on data

YouTube now has a new feature for its mobile app which might make it easier to save on data while watching online videos. Along with data-specific resolution, you get three new options – favor video quality, data use, or whatever works best for your current internet connection.

You might already be used to its “auto” mode, which automatically adjusts the resolution based on your internet connectivity. YouTube’s new edition includes “higher picture quality” and “data saver” mode. Under “higher picture quality”, it uses more data when not on Wi-Fi and defaults to 720p, while under “data saver” mode it maxes out at 480p.

Apart from these umbrella modes, you can still opt for specific resolutions. It’s up to you to set any specific resolution for any specific video you’re watching or any system-wide for everything you watch, with specific behaviors for Wi-Fi and mobile networks.

A couple of days, YouTube had a new update that allowed creators to change their channel name without any impact on Google account.

If only, we lived in an ideal world where it doesn’t matter what resolution you set. But, here even on unlimited plans, some mobile carriers may cap at 480p.
