3 died on the spot after a small plane crashes in Clay County
Three people died when a small plane crashed on the Violet Way at the end of Carter Spencer Road in Middleburg on Wednesday, reported the Florida Highway Patrol.
The Clay County firefighters in response to the situation asked everyone to avoid the area. Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook reported that the call came during Wednesday morning and the deputies discovered the plane in the woods while the passengers were dead on the spot.
Cook said, “You can get there by walking through the woods. We didn’t need any extra equipment to get to it. There was a little path that led to where the wreckage was.” He added that the FHP has taken over the case and Clay County deputies are going to provide assistance with security and traffic detours.
However, the case will be passed over to the NTSB when the investigators reach it. In a statement released by the FAA, it was stated that it was a single-engine plane and that it crashed shortly after departing in a wooded area near Spencer’s Airpark in Middleburg around 9 AM. It also confirmed that there were only three people aboard the plane.
