U.S-China Trade Barbs In First Face-To-Face Talks With Joe Biden
Under the Biden administration, the first meeting took place between the US and China which was their first high- level meeting and Beijing got off to a tense start on Thursday as both sides trade barbs on each other’s action’s and policies, highlighting the growing hostility in ties between the U.S and China despite a new administration in Washington.
U.S Secretary of State Antony Blinken, in the opening of the meeting, read a list of Washington’s problems with China, citing cyberattacks, China’s crackdown on Hong Kong, and the threats against Taiwan. Blinken said these activities ”threaten the rule-based order that maintains global stability.”
A member of the Communist Party’s ruling body said that the U.S should solve its problems with racism and stop promoting its version of democracy around the world.
Mr. Blinken answered by saying that while the U.S ”is not perfect” it deals with its challenges openly.
Chinese top’s diplomat Yang Jiechi said China will not accept ”unwarranted accusation from the U.S side and added that recent events have pushed bilateral ties between the two countries ”into a period of unprecedented difficulty” that ”has damaged the interests of our two people.”
Blinken got annoyed at the statement of yank which went on for 15 minutes, which according to the State Department went beyond the agreed-upon two minutes time limit for the opening statement.
