HSS Alejandro Mayorkas to visit southern Texas, amidst rising border crisis

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is visiting southern Texas on Friday. It is because criticism continues to rise over the Biden administration’s handling of the spiraling border crisis.

The Department of Homeland Security said Mayorkas would be traveling with a “bipartisan” group of senators. Also, the visit would be closed to media because of COVID-19 concerns.

Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) dropped news of Mayorkas’ visit along the border in El Paso, Texas in a Thursday interview with Fox News.

“I’m spending the day tomorrow with Secretary Mayorkas. He’ll be here,” Portman said, without providing details.

“We’ll be looking at some of the issues including this huge problem with unaccompanied kids coming across the border,” he added. “Those numbers have increased even more dramatically to the point that right now we have a true crisis in the detention facilities … We’re gonna talk about that tomorrow and we’ll see some of those facilities. And we’ll have a chance to talk about what I saw tonight.”

Thousands of migrants from Central America and other places have been trying to cross the US-Mexico border since Biden became the President. The Feds have been scrambling to house the rise of unaccompanied minors since then.
