Former NFL player identified as suspect in deadly South Carolina shooting
A shooting in South Carolina on Wednesday killed five people, a doctor, his wife and their two grandchildren were among those found dead. A shooter was identified as former NFL player Phillip Adams, according to a source.
Police have not publicly named the suspect but said officers identified the suspect in a nearby house after an hourslong search Wednesday night.
Adams’s, who has spent six seasons in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers, New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks, Oakland Raiders, New York Jets and Atlanta Falcons, before his career ended in 2015, has parents living near the doctor’s home. He has been previously treated by the doctor as well.
Adams’ killed himself after midnight on Thursday.
The shooting, which took place at a home in York County, South Carolina had five victims, four of which died as a result of gunshot wounds.
According to the York County coroner’s office, Dr. Robert Lesslie, 70, Barbara Lesslie, 69, and their grandchildren Adah Lesslie, 9, and Noah Lesslie, 5, were pronounced dead at the scene. James Lewis, 38, was found dead outside. Lewis was working at the home at the time, police said. A sixth person was injured in the shooting and taken to a local hospital to be treated for serious gunshot wounds.
