Rockslide at Highway 50 forces authorities to close it

A rockslide on early Friday forced the authorities to close the Highway 50 near Echo Summit.

Caltrans district says that both west and east bound lanes have been shut just east of the summit in El Dorado County,

A driver of Toyota 4Runner crashed into boulders after the slide but no injuries were reported, says Cal Highway Patrol.

As per Cal Highway Patrol the slide was reported at 5:45 a.m.

Caltrans suggest following for the east bound traffic traveling on Highway 50:

From Sacramento: SR-16 east, to SR-49 south, to SR-88 east, to SR-89 north to US-50 in Meyers.

From Placerville: SR-49 south, to SR-88 east to SR-89 north into South Lake Tahoe.
