Republicans to host presidential campaign party in Florida, Trump remains the featured guest

Republicans are tossing a quick presidential campaign party this weekend in South Florida. Donald Trump remains the featured guest at the party.

At a Republican National Committee “spring retreat” on the Palm Beach shore, at least a half-dozen Republicans are said to be considering 2024 presidential invitations, including Trump.

As GOP aspirants plan for elections in 2022 and 2024, they will be blending with some of the party’s biggest financial donors. A Friday-through-Sunday event’s invitation said that only current Republican National Committee investors will be eligible to attend.

GOP political strategist Doug Heye said that this is a conclave of Republican finance influencers. “If you’re looking at running for president, you’re going to be there,” he said.

Republican Party’s future revolves too much around Trump. The former president is even hosting a Saturday night dinner at his Mar-a-Lago estate at this weekend’s retreat. Additional retreat activities will take place at the Four Seasons resort hotel.

Trump has often said it is too early to decide whether he will run again in 2024. He remains popular with Republican voters even after his loss in the election to President Joe Biden and the chaos that surrounded it.

Targeting Republicans who favoured impeaching Trump over the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, he plans to get involved in the 2022 races.

The meetings are all behind closed doors and the media is not permitted to attend.

Prospective candidates attending the retreat include Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and both of Florida’s Republican senators, Rick Scott, and Marco Rubio.
