Active shooting at Main street Branford, suspect barricaded
Branford police are investigating an active shooting in the area of Main Street near Cherry Hill Road. A person is barricaded inside the building, says the police.
Police released statements saying, “Pls avoid this area, the scene is not safe”, “Several police agencies are assisting and the South Central Regional SWAT Team is arriving.”
As per the emergency scanner, at around 12:30 there were “multiple shots fired”.
Police were stationed outside Main Street, the Leon James International Hair Studio, at 1:30 where the armed suspect is reported to be located. A witness reported that they hear repeated gunfire from that area.
At around 2:20 pm, an eyewitness reported a chopper over the scene as the officer and tactical units can be seen at the location.
The main street is blocked by the police at the intersection of Rt. 146.
Giving “safety of officers” as the reason, Branford police are asking the residents not to live stream the incident.
Connecticut Department of Transportation confirmed that due to police activity on the location, Exit53 has been closed and will remain shut for up to two hours. Adding to the exit being shut, State Police said that anyone travelling must use an alternate route.
