Unidentified Body discovered in Mississippi River in the St. John the Baptist Parish

According to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office, a body was found in the Mississippi River on Tuesday morning.

An unidentified body was recovered near Milepost 137, as confirmed by Sheriff Mike Tregre. Further, an autopsy will be conducted. It was first noticed in the middle of the river by a crew member on a tugboat who called the Sheriff’s office at around 9:18 am, says Tregre.

The discovery comes amid the search of an LSU student from Opelousas, Kori Gauthier, who has been missing since Wednesday. An 18-year old’s car was found on the Interstate 10 Mississippi River bridge in Baton Rouge last Wednesday.

On discovering her wrecked car, officials said that she wasn’t in the car but her cell phone and wallet were inside.

LSU police are planning a meeting with the St. John the Baptist Parish. Nothing has been confirmed yet but an update will be provided later Tuesday, says LSU spokesman Ernie Ballard III.

News of the unidentified body found in the river came less than a month after another woman’s body was found in the river nearby St. James Parish. In that case, the police identified the body as Rachel Richardson, 31, who was allegedly shot and dumped in the river by her boyfriend.
