FedEx Warehouse Shooting: 8 Killed in shooting in Indianapolis Warehouse
At least seven other people were injured in the latest of a string of mass shootings this year, this time in a FedEx warehouse in Indianapolis on Thursday. The authorities said the gunman is believed to have killed himself.
A gunman stormed a FedEx warehouse in Indianapolis on late Thursday, letting loose a string of bullets. The chaotic scene that occurred has left authorities searching for a motive on Friday after the man fatally shot eight people and injured at least seven others.
The police arrived at the scene in Indianapolis just after 11 p.m. Thursday, responding to a report that shots had been fired. The families of the workers waited for word, with more than 100 people gathered at a Holiday Inn Express nearby.
The police said that five of the injured people had been hospitalized with gunshot or shrapnel wounds, including one in critical condition who was expected to survive. Two others were treated at the scene and released.
The latest mass shooting to rock the nation in weeks has had the authorities identify both victims and the gunman, who shot himself immediately after.
A news conference is expected at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
“This is another heartbreaking day and I’m shaken by the mass shooting at the FedEx Ground facility in Indianapolis,” Gov. Eric Holcomb of Indiana said on Twitter. Mayor Joe Hogsett of Indianapolis condemned the “horrific news of yet another mass shooting, an act of violence that senselessly claimed the lives of eight of our neighbours.”
The F.B.I. said that it was assisting the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department in the investigation. Attorney General Merrick B. Garland has been briefed on the situation.
The violence in Indianapolis comes only weeks after the back-to-back mass shootings last month at spas in the Atlanta area and a grocery store in Boulder, Colorado, exposing the cracks in America’s gun laws.
