Hashtag ‘RIP Twitter’ trends in response to the new ‘fleets’
Twitter is experimenting to add a new feature called ‘fleets’ which can be used to tweet messages that disappear 24 hours after posting. Similar to the Stories feature of other social media apps such as Instagram and Facebook, the users are now criticizing Twitter for trying to copy the rivals.
As people seem to be not very impressed with this new feature, #RIPTwitter has begun trending on Twitter as a backlash from the users.
The new ‘fleets’ is for tweeting fleeting thoughts that vanish after 24 hours of posting and one can view them by clicking on the ‘fleeters’ profile picture. Fleets does not allow people to retweet or like but only react to them.
The product lead of Twitter, Kavyon Beykpour explained that fleets are for those who fear to post due to the intimidating consequences of the micro-blogging site. However this new feature will encourage more people to tweet their thoughts without having to feel worried about the consequences.
People have showed disdain towards the change by tweeting hilarious and disapproving replies-
Twitter, you have allowed me to make many famous people very mad over the years.
I am sorry to hear that you are dead now but it is probably for the best.
RIP Twitter

Meanwhile, fleets are being tested only in Brazil at the moment and might move to other countries as well. We hope that this new feature is accepted and proves valuable to get more new Twitter users on board.
