Decatur man shot dead, estate sues alarm company

Vivint Inc., an alarm and home security company is being sued by the estate of a Decatur man who was shot and killed two years ago. According to the lawsuit, the man died as a result of the alarm being failed to go off when his window was shot and the door was broken down.

As reported by Decatur daily, the alarm company along with two defendants Zachary Bernard Williams and Ulysses Ke’Andre Wilkerson were sued. The individuals indicted on three counts of capital murder have pled not guilty in the February 2019 shooting death of Michael Wayne Irvin Jr. at his home on Marion Street.

The complaint claims that the incompetency on the part of the company in manufacturing defective and malfunctioned products led to the alarm being not timely gone off in the Irvin home as a result of which there was a delay with the law enforcement authorities getting notified. Irvin, who was found with multiple gunshot wounds, bled to death in his home. Justice awaits as a trial date has yet to be set in the murder case, but a status conference is scheduled for May 17.
