Australian students to hold strikes against government’s budget allocations
Australian students are planning to voice their anger at the federal government’s allotment of budget for the gas industry by protesting on the streets.
Friday will be the first “School Strike 4 Climate” in Australia after the COVID-19 outbreak.
The students have for a long time planned for net-zero emissions and more renewable energy in Australia’s power system but are now focusing their attention on the Morrison government’s recent budget.
Last week’s federal budget allotted more than $58 million in the direction of expediting the gas industry. Also, the coalition this week also declared that $600 million of taxpayer money would be allocated for building a gas-fired power station in NSW.
“Together with tens of thousands of my fellow let-down Australians, I am striking from school to tell the Morrison government that they must stop throwing Aussie cash at gas,” a 16-year-old student told Yass Tribune.
“If Morrison cares about our collective future, he will make it happen,” she added.
The students will protest around major cities and dozens of other locations across Australia.
