Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin to meet in Geneva next month

US President Joe Biden is scheduled to have a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 16 in Geneva, Switzerland, reported The Wall Street Journal.

This will be the first in-person meeting between the two global leaders after Biden joined the office as President. This meeting also comes against the backdrop of the intensifying tensions between Washington and Moscow.

This will be Biden’s first foreign trip as President. It is believed to happen after Biden’s trip to the Group of Seven summit in England and a NATO meeting in Brussels.

The agenda of discussion is probably going to cover issues like nuclear proliferation, climate change and Russia’s attempt to involve in foreign elections.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki stated on Tuesday, “The leaders will discuss the full range of pressing issues, as we seek to restore predictability and stability to the U.S.-Russia relationship.”

In a statement confirming the same, the Kremlin stated that the leaders “intend to discuss the state and prospects of further development of Russian-American relations, problems of strategic stability, as well as topical issues on the international agenda, including interaction in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic and the settlement of regional conflicts.”
