Kamala Harris visits Guatemala; Efforts to strengthen relationship with the Country
Kamala Harris travels to Guatemala, the first official foreign travel after taking her position as Vice President of the USA. The trio intends to strengthen America’s bonds with the country in Central America and discuss the country’s mutual difficulties.
Out of the topics of discussion, the first being migration of people in large numbers from Central America. The Vice President and her team have worked on the issue in details and want to collectively with Guatemalan officials, come to a solution for it.
Another problem that needs to be tackled together is that of Corruption. “Corruption really does sap the wealth of any country, and in Central America is at a scale where it is a large percentage of GDP across the region. We see corruption as one of the most important root causes to be dealt with,” says Ricardo Zuniga, a career member of the U.S. Senior Foreign Service and the Special Envoy for the Northern Triangle who accompanied Vice President Harris in her meetings.
