Tornado hits Chicago suburbs, heavy damage to crops and property

After the tornado swept the area, heavy rains and winds took their place, it affected large parts of DuPage County and Woodridge in Illinois. Hundreds of homes were destroyed, trees uprooted and electricity cut off. Five people out of which one was in critical condition were hospitalised in Naperville. As of now, 450 power outages have been reported in the area.

The tornado hit the city yesterday and started to take a toll immediately. The most affected areas are Naperville, Woodridge and Darien.

“If there were no fatalities — and there haven’t been any reported to us — that’s great news considering the population of the area, the level of damage and the time of day, after 11 p.m. when many people may be asleep,” said Matt Friedlein, Meteorologist at the National Weather Service, Romeoville, Illinois.
