Extreme violence in South Africa over jailing of ex-president Jacob Zuma

Crowd set shopping malls on fire in cities across South Africa in a clash with police on Tuesday. Dozens of people are reported killed after grievances unleashed by the jailing of ex-president Jacob Zuma boiled turned into the worst violence in years.

Zuma, 79, was sentenced for defying a court order to give evidence at an inquiry investigating high-level corruption during his nine years in office until 2018. He also faces trial on charges including corruption, fraud, racketeering, and money laundering. He refused to agree to these charges.
