Belgium flash floods: Video show cars floating down the streets of East Belgium

A video of cars floating down the flooded streets of East Belgium was published by the French website Meteo Express on Thursday. The flash flood was caused by heavy rains in the Liege province.

Meteo Express, the French website that covers weather posted the video on Twitter, adding that the water level was at 6.5 feet. 

 

According to a Belgium news outlet VRT NWS, the mayor of Pepinster, a small town in Liege Province said that dozens of houses collapsed along the Vesdre River that flows through the area.

 

According to another report by VRT NWS, 4 bodies were found in the Verviers region, earlier on Thursday. 

 

“The country’s emergency services are mobilized, with the support of the Interior and Defense. Belgium can also count on international aid.” Belgium Prime Minister Alexander De Croo said in a tweet. 

 

German news agency Mdr Aktuell reported that parts of the Rhine, a major river in Germany, is closed for shipping. According to the Waterways and Shipping Office, traffic in the Karlsruhe region has been suspended.
