Resettlement plans hurt as President Joe Biden yet to raise cap on migrants

Apart from the COVID crisis and subsequent economic slump, the surge in migrants’ headcount is turning out yet another challenge for President Joe Biden.

Around 300 refugees, scheduled to reach their promised land, couldn’t make it to the USA as their itinerary was disrupted last minute, said agencies involved in the resettlement process.

The reason for this sudden change has been attributed to the anti-immigrant stance promulgated in the Trump era and is yet to be overturned by the incumbent POTUS.

Earlier, the Biden administration had announced to raise the number of asylum-seekers, which was drastically reduced to 15,000 by Trump.

However, months after the announcement, the recent President has not yet formally ratified his pledge.

As a result, the resettlement agencies had to cancel the transfer of several migrants at the eleventh hour.
