George Floyd’s death case once again in stir over $27 million settlement
George Floyd’s death case afresh convoked with arguments over the
$27 million settlement. The arguments centered on whether the news, which happened amid the jury selection process, may have impacted the impartiality of the jury pool in Chauvin’s trial.
Hennepin County District Judge Peter Cahill said they would consider calling back all the seven jurors before the court and question their exposure to the news.
Cahill, along with lawyers for defense and prosecution, has been asking potential jurors about their previous knowledge of the case, whether they’ve seen it on the news and how they responded to a 13-page questionnaire. Twelve jurors and two alternatives will be selected.
Many prospective jurors last week expressed concerns about potentially serving on such a high-profile case, and some said they had already formed opinions about Chauvin based on what they had seen in videos of George Floyd’s death.
Chauvin is charged with manslaughter and second-degree murder case by the prosecutors.
