After re-questioning, two jurors were dismissed in George Floyd case

On Wednesday the murder trial of ex-cop Derek Chauvine in George Floyd’s death case took a pitfall when a Minneapolis judge was forced to dismiss two jurors that had already been seated in the high-profile case.

The seven jurors were questioned by Hennepin District Judge Peter Cahill who had been seated before the news broke of a $ 27 million settlement of wrongful death lawsuit filed by Floyd’s family and it stated that the two panelists could not be impartial any more in this case.

”It will impact it a lot,” a juror told Cahill on Wednesday morning.

”So, last time I was asked about my strong opinions on Chauvin,” he told to the judge .”Clearly, the city of Minneapolis has some strong opinions as well. And this kind of confirms my opinion that I already had.”

A 20-year-old juror said he was ”shock” on hearing the settlement amount. Only two for the seven said they had not heard of the settlement, and three others said they knew of it but said it had not changed their opinion of the case.

There have been many hurdles in the trial, the lawyers have struggled a lot to seat jurors in this case

A panel of nine jurors was seated for this case where two jurors had been seated since words of the civil settlement broke. But on Wednesday two jurors were removed.

Chauvin’s lawyer, Eric Nelson, argued that news of the hefty payout tainted the jury pool.

”You have the city settling a civil lawsuit for a record amount of money, and the pre-trial publicity is just so concerning, “I’m looking for the fact that we essentially still need three sitting jurors plus two alternates,” said Nelson to judge on Tuesday.

Cahill said that the decision was not legal it was politically taken. he also stated that the jurors will get words of reports.

According to reports Chauvin was prepared to plead guilty to a third-degree murder charge until then-Attorney General William Barr Blocked the deal.

The selection of jury will be continued on Wednesday there will be a requirement of five more jurors and two alternates to impanel a jury for the trial, that is scheduled to start on March 29th
