Amazon to provide additional $100 to new employees for vaccination proof
World’s largest e-commerce retailer Amazon.com Inc stated on Thursday that it is going to provide $100 more to new hires along with an evidence of COVID-19 vaccination. The move comes as part of its plan to employ 75,000 workers for fulfillment and logistics operations, reported Reuters.
As vaccines become important to reopen the economy, few U.S. retailers, including Dollar General, Kroger and Target, are proposing bonuses or other perks to staff receiving their vaccine dosage.
Demand for hourly staff at restaurants, factories, retail stores and fulfillment centers is surging as e-commerce demand remains strong. However, more consumers are believed to leave their homes after a year of living in lockdown.
The vaccine-related incentives are also being provided to attract employees flush with relief checks and cautious of the pandemic as well as the lack of childcare incentives back to work.
Amazon will give out the new employees an average starting amount of more than $17 per hour, showing recent raise of between 50 cents and $3 an hour for about half a million fulfillment-center workers in the United States.
