Atlanta councilman who backed “Defund the Police” dragged by car thieves
Antonio Brown, a councilman in Atlanta who supports the ‘Defund the Police’ movement and is standing for mayor, was dragged and hauled as he held onto his car when it was being stolen on Wednesday at an event.
Antonio Brown was the victim of a car theft months after he voted for an ordinance that would’ve held back tens of millions of dollars from the police.
The incident comes at a time when Atlanta dealing with a rate of crime surge. The state has recorded murders up by 59 percent and car thefts up by 25 percent from a year ago, as of May 22.
There have been 54 murders in Atlanta in comparison to 34 during the same time last year. Also, 284 shooting cases, which is an increase of 46 percent since last year.
The incident transpired as during a ribbon-cutting ceremony in northwest Atlanta, four people jumped into Brown’s car as he was leaving to speak to someone just before noon and took off.
Police said, “Several males entered his unlocked car and drove away with it.” Adding that Brown was driving a Mercedes Coupe, that comprises of a push-button ignition.
