Bashar al-Assad looks at his fourth term after Syrian election

President Bashar al-Assad looks all ready to carry on his family’s dynastic lineage of Syria further with an election on Wednesday.

Assad, aged 55, is running for his fourth term as the President of Syria.

Once considered a reformer but after a decade of war and suppression, he is looked at by his many rivals as a despot.

Assad is labeled as “an animal” by the United States for inflaming his own citizens and is given the tag of a “great fighter” by Iran for withstanding Washington and Israel.

However, he faces no serious opposition, and the Syrian opposition leaders and Western nations look down on this election as a buffoonery to  just rubber-stamp his rise to power.

Assad’s tenure as a President is identified by the crisis that started in 2011 with peaceful protests before escalating into a multi-sided conflict that has smashed to smithereens, the Middle East country and brought foreign friends and enemies to its credit.
