Biden to hold his first cabinet meeting after rolling out infrastructure plan

President Biden is set to hold his first cabinet meeting on Thursday, a day after he rolled out his $2 trillion infrastructure plan, assembling with his administration’s top officials for an in-person gathering at the White House.

The afternoon meeting will be held in the East Room and not in the Cabinet Room to allow for social distancing. The meeting is just over 10 weeks into Mr. Biden’s presidency. During this period the Senate confirmed all of his cabinet secretaries and almost all of his nominees to other cabinet-level positions.

Mr. Biden’s $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package called American Rescue Plan passed in March and his recently released infrastructure plan called the American Jobs Plan are among the topics slated for discussion.

The meeting would address “working together to continue implementing and communicating about the American Rescue Plan” as well as “the role cabinet members’ will play in advocating for the American Jobs Plan,” said Karine Jean-Pierre, a White House spokeswoman.

President Biden’s infrastructure plan calls for spending in different areas, including transportation, energy, and housing, making a number of his cabinet members placed properly to enable selling the plan in the coming months.

Shalanda Young, the acting director of the Office of Management and Budget is one among those set to attend the cabinet meeting.  The president has yet to announce a new choice to lead the office after  Neera Tanden’s nomination by Mr. Biden to lead the office was withdrawn by the White House as she faced bipartisan opposition in the Senate.

The event is expected to have a different tone from the cabinet meetings during President Donald J. Trump’s administration.
