Bill-Melinda divorce reveals former couple’s massive landholdings across the U.S.
The splitting up of American business magnate Bill Gates and his wife Melinda which could possibly be one of the most high profile divorces of all time has raised many questions regarding the financial aftermath that would follow, with special regards to his land owning-the specifics of which were till now uncertain to the public.
Gates announced the divorce in a public tweet yesterday that the couple has decided to mutually end the marriage after 27 years of togetherness.
Back in January, US magazine The Land Report revealed that Bill and Melinda Gates have amassed the largest portfolio of private farmland in the US, comprising an estimated 242,000 acres across 18 states.
Even though Gates stepped down as the chairman of Microsoft in 2014, he still owns 1.37% of its shares that are worth more than $26 billion making him the fourth richest person in the world earning more than $4000 dollars per second according to Business Insider in 2019.
He made most of his fortune through tech and slowly selling the Microsoft stock and diversifying his portfolio by investing in other wealthier companies. However, other than the claimed $130 billion net worth, an investigation by the Land Report revealed that whopping land holdings are a huge part of his hidden investments.
Since the couple has not signed any pre-nuptial agreement, the land is likely to be a part of the divorce deal and could reveal in great detail the magnitude of hidden assets, investments, and fortune of the former couple.
