Buckingham Palace first reaction after Harry and Meghan’s interview

Everyone is looking forward to Buckingham Palace after the explosive interview given by Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex to Oprah Winfrey. In the interview, she made allegations of racism in the palace and no support was there from the royal family over the mental health issues and media’s interference.

Until now, there has been complete silence from the royal family after the interview took place. It was aired on CBS on Sunday and British broadcaster ITV on Monday night, attracting millions of viewers on both sides of the Atlantic.

As per British media reports, including BBC, the palace has conducted “crisis talks” with senior royals reported to have had urgent discussions over how to limit the fallout from the interview. In the interview, Harry and Meghan openly alleged that a member of the royal family had questioned what skin tone their then-unborn child might have.

Meghan, the first mixed-race member of the modern British royal family, did not disclose the name of the person who made the comment, saying: “it would be too damaging for them.”

The Palace did not give any statement regarding the interview when contacted by CNBC on Tuesday.

Later on, Oprah Winfrey clarified that the royal who had made the comment was not Queen Elizabeth II or Prince Philip.

The two-hour interview, skillfully handled by veteran broadcaster Winfrey, was watched by 17.1 million viewers in the U.S. Over 12 million viewers watched the U.K. transmission, as per the numbers released by ITV on Tuesday.
