Californian Governor announces $116 million lottery for residents getting vaccinated
California Governor Gavin Newsom declared on Thursday that his state is going to provide more than $116 million in total prizes to residents of California, who get vaccinated against COVID-19.
The announcement of a prize system, which will give out 10 Californians the opportunity to win $1.5 million, has put the state in the front and center amid a rising number of states giving out their residents cash incentives to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
According to the announcement, all the state residents, of age 12 and older will be eligible to win the prize money.
“We’re putting aside more resources than any other state in America, and we’re making available the largest prizes of any state in America for those that seek to get vaccinated,” Newsom said at a Los Angeles high school, reported The Associated Press.
Newsom has set the goal of vaccinating atleast 70 percent of Californians before June 15.
He confirmed on Thursday that the state will also provide $50 to the next 2 million people who get vaccinated.
