China’s antitrust regulators may charge Alibaba Group over its anticompetitive behavior
Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. may be facing a penalty because of its anticompetitive behavior. China’s antitrust regulators are contemplating a record fine against the company.
The reports said, that the fine could surpass the $975 million which Qualcomm had paid in 2015 over anti-competitive practices.
The regulators are giving a thought to remove some assets unrelated to Alibaba’s main online-retailing business.
Alibaba haven’t responded to media’s request for comment.
SAMR was carrying out an antitrust investigation into Alibaba, which it first announced in December. SAMR said reports of anti-competitive behavior are rising and the industry was facing challenges regulating it.
The new rules come into effect as China takes a firmer line against alleged anti-competitive behavior.
