Chinese vaccine has low efficacy, says CCDCP director

The director of the Chinese center for disease control and prevention (CCDCP), Gao Fu, on Saturday, told the media in the southwestern city of Chengdu about the low efficacy of currently available vaccines. He also said that to increase the protection we have to mix the vaccines technically to give them a boost and we can increase the number of doses required.

Gao’s comments appeared to go viral on social media, but stringent actions were taken and the authorities took down all the posts and comments.

Last week Brazil published the study of the Sinovac Biotech Limited company (a private company in China) where the efficacy rate was slightly more than 50% that is near the threshold at which a vaccine is useful. By comparison, the vaccine made by Pfizer has been found to be 97% effective Till now 5 vaccines have been developed in China with efficacy rates ranging between 66% to 79%.
