Closure of Apple Daily, sad day for media freedom, says Biden

Joe Biden on Thursday called the closure of Hong Kong’s Apple Daily ” a sad day for media freedom” and linked it to “intensifying repression” by China. He also mentioned that his support is with the people in the region.

People in Hong Kong flocked to buy the last edition of Apple Daily. The office filled up with cheers and tears. Hundreds waited in lines to grab the last copy of 26 years old paper. Locals call it the end of an era and support Apple Daily’s voice. It printed 1 million copies on its last day which is 10 times more than usual. The journalists and executives were arrested earlier this week and the company received various objections to its articles for a long time.
