COVID Updates: California to reopen state on June 15
Officials on Tuesday confirmed that California has plans to drop its tier system and open up the state on June 15 if vaccine supply remains steady and coronavirus metrics continue to decline.
Everyday activities will resume and businesses will open with “common sense” risk-reduction measures,” state Health and Human Services Secretary Dr Mark Ghaly said in a statement.
“Our hospitalizations have been steadily decreasing for months,” he said. “We have consistently low and improving metrics,” he further added.
Meanwhile, as of Sunday, the United States has administered more than 165 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines in the country while 208 million more distributed.
In New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the launch of mobile vaccination teams, vans and busses armed with one-shot, Johnson & Johnson jabs that will target some of the hardest-to-reach New Yorkers, including neighbourhoods identified as being the hardest-hit by the virus.
