Death toll rises to 27 after condo complex demolished
The death toll in the condominium collapse rose to 27 as three more dead bodies were found on Monday as the building was demolished controllably. 118 people are still missing.
Crews had avoided much of the search area in the shadow of the still-standing portion because of the fear of falling debris and the instability of the building but now the search will safely take place in a much safer way.
“We will be able to access every part of that pile, which they hadn’t been able to do up to this point. I think it’s going to move the pace. I think the momentum is very strong,” DeSantis said.
