Deutsche Post DHL’S assets of more than 20 million euros seized

Italian tax police have got hold of assets worth more than 20 million euros ($24 million) from the local unit of logistics giant Deutsche Post DHL as part of a fraud investigation, reported Reuters on Monday.

Deutsche Post DHL told that its Italian subsidiary DHL Supply Chain had been apprised by prosecutors about an investigation focusing on apparent tax irregularities, in Milan.

Deutsche Post DHL confirmed in a statement, “Since the company believes that it has always operated in full compliance with Italian tax laws, it will provide to the investigators all the cooperation needed to quickly and satisfactorily clarify its position.”

Milan prosecutors claim that a “transportation and logistics multinational” in Italy wasn’t able to pay value-added taxes and pension contributions meant for staff, police confirmed on Monday, by depending on contractors other than hired employees.

The anonymous logistics firm used workers given by a consortium of 23 local cooperative firms, the police added.
