Donald Trump denies report of Congressman requesting for pardon in sex trafficking investigation
On Wednesday, Former President Donald Trump denied the report which claimed that the Congressman, Matt Gaetz asked for a blanket pardon against the allegation of his involvement in an underage sex trafficking racket.
In an emailed statement by the 45th commander-in-chief said, “Matt Gaetz has never asked me for a pardon,” he added, “it must also be remembered that he has totally denied accusations against him.”
It was reported on Tuesday by New York Times that Gaetz apparently asked for pardon when he was under investigation by the Justice Department for an alleged relationship with a 17year old, which violated the law of sex trafficking.
As per the newspaper, it is quite unclear that if the accused discussed the matter directly with the president. Also if the White House had any knowledge regarding the federal probe at the time when he made the request.
If the report is truthful then it may have been that the White House has been kept in dark by its advisors about him getting investigated for sex trafficking violations.
It was denied by a spokesperson that the request was in any way related Justice of Department. Some of the Trumps associated, during recent days, speculated that his request for blanket pardon for him was a way to attempt to seal his own potential legal exposure, the Times reported.
Reached by Politico, Matt has denied allegations against him of asking for pardon. When he was reached again on Tuesday afternoon, he said that he stood by his statement.
“The recent allegations against me are not something I’ve ever discussed with Trump, pardon, or otherwise,” he told in his initial denial.
According to Politico report, the under-attack lawmakers had advised Trump to pardon himself, his family and other from a charge of insurrection. It was much broader pardon strategy that was discussed after Capitol Riots at Jan 6th. Trump was later impeached by the House on the grounds of stirring an insurrection, but he was saved in Senate.
Gaetz was stubborn with denying the allegations against him as on Monday he told Washington Examiner that he isn’t resigning and blamed the scandal on the “political opponents.”
Gaetz had previously backed Trump’s presidential pardons and blaming the opposition he said that “Because you see from a radical left a bloodlust that will come after only those who worked hard to animate Trump’s administration with the policy,” he added to Laura Ingraham, “So I think the president ought to wield the pardon power effectively and robustly”
In addition to sex trafficking violation, Gaetz has been accused of several misdeeds, including that he played a Harry Potter themed “sex challenge” where points were awarded at various romps and also that he used to show naked pictures of women he slept with to his fellow people.
