Elderly Asian woman who fought off attacker donates nearly $1 Million raised for her to ‘combat racism.’
A 75- years old Asian American woman who fought back after being attacked in San Francisco, nearly $1 Million fund was raised in a crowdfunding campaign for her, which she will donate to combat racism.
This campaign started from her family member who created GoFundMe for Xiao Zhen Xie after she was punched in the face by a man while waiting at a traffic light. She picked up a stick and fought back but the attack left her with black eyes, a swollen wrist and PSTD, according to the fundraising page.
Thousands of supporters raised donation by Wednesday morning, the amount was $933,600. John Chen, Xiao’s grandson said in an update that her mental and physical health were improving and she insisted on donating all the money to the Asian American community.
”We must not submit to racism and we must fight to death if necessary.”Chen wrote. She insists on making the decision saying this issue is bigger than her.
According police investigation, Steven Jenkins, 39, is also suspect in an attack on an 38-years-old Asian man in the same area just 30 minutes earlier. Jenkins was detained by a nearby security guard. Police also said that ”Investigators are working to determine if racial bias was motivating factor in the incident.”

Jenkins was booked into San Franciso country jail on two charges of assault likely to produce great bodily injury, two charges of battery with serious bodily injury and two charges of elder abuse, according to jail records.
City police announced increased patrols in Asian neighborhood after a surge attacks in the Bay Area.
