Europe and China the largest trading partners ditching US
The pandemic leads to unprecedented changes one of the most exciting in Europe will now trade more goods with China than the United States.
China was the only major global economy to see growth in 2020, stoking demand for European cars and luxury goods.
“In the year 2020, China was the main partner for the EU. This result was due to an increase of imports (+5.6%) and exports (+2.2%),” according to Eurostat,” the EU’s statistical office stated.
The European Commission said it laid down clear obligations on Chinese state-owned enterprises which are often heavily subsidized and established rules against forced technology transfers.
President Joe Biden will now have to reset relationships with allies and build a global coalition to hold China to account. Jake Sullivan, who is now President Joe Biden’s national security adviser, urged EU leaders to address shared concerns about Beijing with the incoming administration.
The deal still generated friction with the United States
