Fans get banned from the Tokyo Olympics due to COVID-19

Fans get banned from the Tokyo Olympics due to coronavirus infections in the capital. Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga announced the state of emergency. The International Olympic Committee and Japanese organizers banned locals too after banning international spectators last month. Due to this decision, sponsors are now concerned about public backlash.

“It is regrettable that we are delivering the Games in a very limited format, facing the spread of coronavirus infections,” Tokyo 2020 President Seiko Hashimoto said following talks between government officials, Tokyo organizers, and Olympic and Paralympic representatives.
