Florida bans transgender girls from female sports

Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis enacted the law on the first day of Pride Month, which celebrates the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community to ban transgender girls and women from participating in female sports at schools.

DeSantis is closely aligned with former President Donald Trump and his enactment has resulted Florida into becoming the latest and largest state in the United States to finalize a ban on the LGBTQ community sports participation which was a part of a campaign in statehouses nationwide this year assailed as discriminatory by equal rights activists.

“I can tell you this: in Florida, girls are going to play girls’ sports and boys are going to play boys’ sports. We are going to go based off biology, not based off ideology when we are doing sports”, amongst many supporters of the sports bills. Florida’s law clearly defines an athlete’s sex as that stated on official documents at birth which means in practice that transgender female athletes who are born as biological males would have an unfair advantage if they are allowed to compete with females.

Democrats have accused the right wing as discriminatory with the act being unnessecary and the move as a provocation to boost their partie’s ideologies- Democrat President Joe Biden had issued a proclamation to mark the start of Pride Month for passing ‘Equality Act’ aimed to end sexuality-gender identity based discrimination of the LGBTQ community.
