French police disperse a protest against new COVID-19 measures

On Wednesday, French police officers stepped in to disperse a protest against President Emmanuel Macron’s COVID-19 measures like mandatory vaccine certificate or negative PCR test to gain entry to bars, restaurants, and cinemas from next month. The protest took place in central Paris.

The protest which took place without permission from the Paris authorities was dispersed using tear gas. The protestors wore badges that said, “No to the health pass”.

Macron announced a number of COVID measures in the face of a rapid surge in cases. According to the new plan shopping malls, cafes, bars, and restaurants will have to check the health passes of all patrons from August. He also announced mandatory vaccination of health workers.

The new plan was met with criticism. According to the critics, the plan trampled with freedom and discriminated against those who do not want the COVID shot.
