GoFundMe efforts for Atlanta Spa Victims raised $3.5 million
At least $2.7 million for Hyun Jung Grant’s two sons is raised in GoFundMe efforts for Atlanta Spa Victims. Georgia spa shooting last week that claimed 8 people and she was one of them.
The effort is one of several GoFundMe pages for families of the victims of the March 16 rampage that in total have raised about $3.5 million.
Hyun Jung Grant, 51, was a single mother to Randy Park, 22, and his brother Eric, 21.
On the GoFundMe page, Randy Park explained how his mother worked long hours at Gold Spa and was often away from home for days or weeks at a time. The brothers have no other family in the USA; the rest are living in South Korea and unable to come here, he said.
“I have no time to grieve for long,” Randy Park said on the page. “I will need to figure out the living situation for my brother and I for the next few months, possibly year.”
The generosity comes amid an alarming wave of hate crimes against Asian Americans across the country fuelled by racism and xenophobia exacerbated by the COVID-19 outbreak and anti-China rhetoric.
